Help With Using the Marketplace

The Marketplace section of www.reading.org provides a secure area for all of your e-commerce transactions with IRA, including joining or renewing IRA membership, subscribing to IRA journals, and purchasing books, individual journal articles, gifts, and other items.

This help section answers the following questions:

For help with Marketplace purchases, see Help With Ordering.

Do I have to log in to use the Marketplace?

No. You can use the Marketplace without logging in. However, whether you are an IRA member or a returning customer, logging in can expedite your transaction by calling up your billing and shipping information. In addition, IRA members must log in to receive their member discount (see Help With Ordering for more information.)

The Marketplace provides a Log In box on the left-hand side of every page (see Help With Logging In for more information).

Do I have to be an IRA member to subscribe to a journal?

Yes. To receive an individual subscription to an IRA journal, you do need to be an IRA member. As a nonmember, you may opt to download selected journal articles on a “pay-per-view” basis from this website.

Can I change my journal subscriptions or membership type online?

Although membership renewals can be placed online, they must duplicate the subscription options included with our expiring membership. To add or subtract subscriptions at the time of renewal or during your membership year, please contact customer service.

Regular, student, and developing economies membership can be purchased online; for emeritus, 25-year, and domestic partner memberships, please contact customer service. If you are a renewing member, you can renew online only within the same membership category. If your situation has changed—for example, you have graduated from your teacher preparation program and are no longer eligible for student rates—please contact customer service to renew.

Do you offer institutional journal subscriptions?

Yes. To find out how to subscribe to IRA publications for your whole school, school district, college, university, or other organization, just contact customer service, or your regular subscription agent.

Do I have to be an IRA member to register for an IRA meeting?

No. However, most IRA meetings do have an early, members-only registration period, and rates are discounted for members. If you are not an IRA member, you will have to wait for the open registration period and pay the full registration fee. Please check the individual meetings listed in our Meetings and Events section for information on meeting dates and registration periods.

How do I find a book if I don’t know the title?

The Marketplace’s Books, Brochures, Videos section provides multiple ways to browse for a book (or other item). In addition to browsing by title, you can browser by an author’s last name or by subject.

Whenever possible, we provide a description, cover image, and sample chapter for each book. This information should help you determine if you think you have found the book you want. If a particular book doesn’t look quite right, scroll to the bottom of the page to see if there are other books we recommend on the same topic.
