Help With Logging In

A large amount of material at this website is freely available to all visitors. In two cases, however, logging in is required or encouraged:

In the Publications area, the full text of most articles and chapters requires either subscription-based log-in or a pay-per-view purchase.

In the Marketplace, logging in is not required, but it is necessary for IRA members who wish to renew subscriptions or purchase books or convention registration with their member discount. Logging in also makes the online purchasing process more efficient and easier for all users. See Using the Marketplace for more information.

How do I get a username and password?

All IRA members are assigned a username and password. It is printed on the sheet that includes your membership card, and is included in order confirmation e-mail sent when you make a purchase at the Marketplace. Nonmembers who make online purchases also receive a log-in combination for subsequent purchases at the Marketplace, sent in the order confirmation e-mail.

If you’re an IRA member or returning customer to our Marketplace and do not know your username and password, we’ll e-mail it to you. (Note that use of this automated log-in retrieval service requires that we find a match for your name and e-mail address in our records. If no match is found, you’ll be directed to contact customer service for assistance.)

How do I log in?

In the Publications area, if you are not already logged in when you click to see the full text of a journal article (one not being offered for free), you will see our Online Access page. If you’re an IRA member with a subscription to that journal or book content, you will be able to log in to see the full text. If you don’t have an appropriate subscription, or if you’re not an IRA member, you’ll be given a “pay-per-view” purchase option.

To expedite log-in, each Journals and Selected Chapters section with restricted content provides a link to the site’s default Log In page.

Once you log in to the Publications area, you remain logged in for 24 to 48 hours, regardless of whether you leave our site to visit another, close your browser, or shut down your computer. This “persistent” log-in has been designed for your convenience, but if you prefer to exit the system entirely when you shut down your browser, simply delete your browser cookies.

Because of the personal information available when you log in to access your account at the Marketplace, you remain logged into that area only for the duration of your user session. You can also choose to log out at any time by clicking the link at the left of any Marketplace page.

Can I change my username and password?

Yes. Your log-in combination is stored with your account information in our secure Marketplace area. First, log in there with your existing username and password. Then, from the Log-In Confirmation page, follow the link toward the bottom left of the page to “Change your username or password.”

What if I can’t remember my username or password?

If you have forgotten your username or password, we can e-mail them to you. You’ll need to enter your first name, last name (surname), and e-mail address. If we find an exact match in our system, we will e-mail your log-in information to you. If we don’t find a match, we will direct you to contact customer service for additional assistance.
