Standards for the Assessment of Reading and Writing

In 1994, the International Reading Association and the National Council of Teachers of English published Standards for the Assessment of Reading and Writing, drawing on the work of the two organizations’ Joint Task Force on Assessment. The document provides 11 standards to guide decisions about assessing the teaching and learning of reading and writing. Each standard is fully described with rationale and implications, and case studies demonstrate how the standards translate to best practice in the classroom.
