Summary button linking to PDF full text

Most educators in the United States have received little training in how to work effectively with families. Because family involvement can be a powerful element of effective literacy instruction, IRA believes that teachers and other school personnel must receive appropriate training in how to work with families to support children’s learning.

“Family-School Partnerships” offers evidence that family involvement is critical to effective schooling. The statement goes on to address specific ways that teachers, teacher educators, and school administrators can gain the skills and knowledge they need to develop and maintain effective family-school partnerships.
