All publications of the International Reading Association (IRA), including print, electronic, and Web formats are protected by U.S. Copyright Law and are owned by IRA, unless otherwise noted. The materials are provided for the personal, noncommercial use of purchasers of publications or visitors to IRA sites.

Types of Use

Fair use. Brief passages (approx. 10%) from IRA material can be reproduced without permission, with appropriate citation. This extends to theses, dissertations, or other academic works. A photocopy of a single article or chapter from an IRA publication may be made without permission for one-time, nonprofit, educational use.

Photocopies. Individual IRA members may may make multiple copies or coursepacks without permission. Nonmembers should contact the Copyright Clearance Center.

Reprint/Republication. To reprint or republish IRA material, members should submit the permission request form; nonmembers should contact www.copyright.com. Republication is limited to two chapters from a book, and a new publication may not include more than 25% of IRA material.

Licenses for electronic reproduction. Posting of IRA material to Internet sites is generally restricted to secured, password-protected websites. Licensors must agree to terms set forth by IRA in the license for website and CD-ROM production.

Library reserve. Up to 10 photocopies of a single article or chapter can be reproduced for use in an educational institution. For secured, password-protected digital or electronic reserve, IRA members may post journal articles for one semester without permission. Nonmembers must contact www.copyright.com.

Videos. Copying of IRA videos is prohibited. Permission to copy or broadcast videos produced by organizations other than IRA must be obtained from the producer.

Translations. To translate an IRA publication into a language other than English, submit the the permission request form, or mail or fax your inquiry on company or institution stationery to IRA’s regular mailing address.

Adaptations. Requests to adapt IRA material should be accompanied by a copy of the intended adaptation.
