The Changing Role of the Reading Specialist in School Reform

The role of the reading specialist is changing, particularly in schools where many students struggle with reading. This article discusses the evolution of the reading specialist's role to that of the reading coach, and reviews research on how reading coaches meet an important need in teachers' professional development.
