Abstract of New Directions in ResearchCharles BergElizabeth BernhardtJill FitzgeraldRobert T. JiménezWilliam LabovAllan LukeFrom the editors' introduction: "Multilingualism...is the topic of this first installment of a feature that we anticipate including in one or two issues each year. To emphasize multidisciplinary perspectives in this feature, we intend to invite highly regarded scholars representing diverse viewpoints to comment on the status of research and what future directions are most needed in relation to selected topics. We also intend to continue the process initiated in this first feature on multilingualism, whereby contributors have an opportunity to read one another's drafts. In doing so, we hope to encourage dialogue across disciplines and perspectives. Abstract from Berg, C., Bernhardt, E., Fitzgerald, J., Jiménez, R.T., Labov, W., & Luke, A. (2003).
