Abstract of

In Their Own Words: A Study of Suburban Middle School Students Using a Self-Selection Reading Program

Retraction of article

It has been brought to the attention of both the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy (JAAL) and the International Reading Association, which publishes the journal, that the article entitled β€œIn Their Own Words: A Study of Suburban Middle School Students Using a Self-Selection Reading Program,” which was published in the October 2005 issue (Vol. 49, No. 2, pp. 130–141) makes inappropriate use of data from a previous study.

In light of this revelation, we are formally retracting this article from the JAAL corpus. We have also removed it from the online version of JAAL. We regret any inconvenience this may cause to our readership and to other researchers.

Authors who submit materials to JAAL for publication are expected to apply the highest standards of personal and professional responsibility to their research and writing. JAAL will take appropriate action to protect its own standing and reputation in the literacy community in any instance where a breach of such standards comes to light.
