Michael Pressley, for years one of the fields leading scholars, discusses where he hopes reading research will focus in the future. Grounding his comments in past work and emphasizing both the wholes and the parts, he highlights research that might lead to more effective schools, classrooms, teaching, and development of particular skills.
Michael Pressley was a University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University, past editor of the Journal of Educational Psychology, and winner of numerous awards for his research and publications. He died on May 22, 2006, a few weeks after this keynote presentation was delivered. IRA is honored to make his comments available to the reading community.
