Theoretical Models and Processes of Reading
Model of Attitude Influence Upon Reading and Learning to Read
Grover C. Mathewson
The author describes the evolution of a theoretical model designed to clarify relationships between attitude and reading and to serve as a heuristic device for generating predictions and guiding practice. The first section of the chapter outlines the fundamental issues raised with early versions of the model and explains how they have been addressed in the newly revised model. The second section shows how the model's subassemblies have been integrated and explores its characteristics. Implications for practice and research are described in the final section.
