Saying the “P” Word: Nine Guidelines for Exemplary Phonics Instruction

 

 

The author asserts that high-quality phonics instruction should be part of all beginning reading programs, and advocates that it be integrated with reading and writing actual texts and build on children's experiences with texts. He discusses principles of effective phonics instruction and describes elements of successful programs.
