For state/provincial associations in the U.S. and Canada:

Local/Special Interest Council Officer Expectation Guides

  • President – is the leader of the council and chair of the executive committee
  • President Elect - performs the duties of the president in his/her absence, resignation, or incapacity.
  • Vice President - performs the duties of the president when the president or president elect is unavailable.
  • Past President - is a valuable advisor to the president and the entire council leadership team.
  • Recording Secretary - maintains accurate records of all council business.
  • Corresponding Secretary - corresponds with council leaders and members regarding council business.
  • Treasurer - maintains accurate financial records and ensures sound fiscal management of the council.
  • Secretary - maintains accurate council records and corresponds with council leaders and members.
  • Membership Chair - is responsible for membership promotion, recruitment, and retention at all levels.
