International Children's Book Day theme set

by Annie Enchakattu | Jan 10, 2011

Established by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), International Children’s Book Day (ICBD) has been celebrated since 1967 on or around April 2, which is Danish children’s author Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday. This event aims to inspire a love of reading and to bring attention to children’s books.

Each year a different national section of IBBY serves as the international sponsor of ICBD. They decide on a theme, feature an author from the host country who writes a message to the children of the world, and get a well-known illustrator to design the event poster.

The 2011 ICBD is being sponsored by the Estonian section of IBBY with the theme “The Book Remembers.” Aino Pervik, an influential author of Estonian literature for children, is the featured author, and Jüri Mildeberg, a renowned illustrator of about 20 books, has designed the poster. Visit the International Children’s Book Day website for more information.
