Senate Vote on Nov 29th: Cuting Earmarks may cut RIF and National Writing Project

Reading Is Fundamental and National Writing Project and other programs could be in big trouble.  On Monday, November 29^th the Senate may take up an anti-earmark bill.  This measure has a lot of public support.  Earmarks are the term used when members of Congress push the appropriators to provide funds programs within there district.  Sometimes these are for buildings, bridges, or local programs.  They constitute about 1% of government spending.  

However,  there are other types of programs where the member of Congress asks for funding – these are programs like Reading Is Fundamental and the National Writing Project.  Please note that both of these programs have been authorized and are national in scope.  As the current moratorium on earmarks is being discussed, these programs would be included in the moratorium as well.
