Opinion: End the reliance on standardized testing

A new report
titled Transforming Teacher Education Through Clinical Practice: A National Strategy to Prepare Effective Teachers, calls for massive changes in teacher education. The report, commissioned by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) says that teacher education programs should be less academic and based more on classroom experience. In her opinion piece titled "Experts: How to overhaul teacher ed (and my problem with their report)" from The Washington Post online, Valerie Strauss argues that “a real overhaul [in teacher education] would include an end to our reliance on standardized tests in every aspect of public education.” Read the full article here.
