Reading is Fundamental (RIF) and the Afterschool Alliance have partnered for the 11th annual Lights on Afterschool, a nationwide rally being celebrated at more than 7,500 events on October 21, 2010. As part of the partnership, RIF will award Multicultural Book Collections to six outstanding Lights On Afterschool sites, and they have developed engaging motivational literacy activities for each site to use as a resource for their event.
Also, RIF will join with Afterschool Alliance to host an event in Washington D.C. at Kimball Elementary School. The event will take place from 3:30-6 pm, and it will include a presentation of a RIF Multicultural Book Collection, a read-aloud by special guests, arts and crafts, and a pep rally assembly. This year, more than one million people are expected to participate in Lights On Afterschool events across the United States.
