Reading Today is the membership magazine of the International Reading Association (IRA).
Reading Today was published as a bi-monthly newspaper from 1983 through 2011. Beginning with the August/September 2011 issue,
Reading Today transitioned to a magazine with two components: the
Reading Today bi-monthly print magazine (with an
interactive digital version) and the
Reading Today Online website.

Reading Today in Print
The print component of Reading Today includes the 48-page, four-color, glossy Reading Today magazine which is mailed to members every two months. It follows the same schedule as the newspaper did, with issues in August/September, October/November, December/January, February/March, April/May, and June/July. All members, including online only members, can login to view an interactive digital version of the latest print issue on the IRA website. Articles from this interactive digital version can be printed or saved as PDFs. This version also has active hyperlinks and a search function.

Submissions
The International Reading Association’s Reading Today staff is always looking for interesting stories that tell the story through the people involved. We encourage you to include quotes, photos, your photo, your bio, and more.
Word Count: One magazine page is 500 words. Two pages are 1,000 words. Three pages are 1,500 words. One page includes seven short book reviews. Online articles should be around 300 words.
Style: Use the IRA Style Guide at http://www.reading.org/styleguide.aspx. Consider inserting short section headers every three or four paragraphs. Include captions for photos. You can include references but keep them to a minimum. (This is a magazine, not a journal.) Include a short bio: “Name is position at organization, email@email.com.”
Photos and Images: Save photos in JPG, TIFF, or PNG format. Save images like charts, maps, and line art as GIF, TIFF, or PNG format. Please no BMP (bitmap). For the print magazine, image resolution should be at least 200 dpi, and 4” x 6” in size. For online, image resolution can be 72 dpi. Do not place photos in the Word document with your text. Programs like Microsoft Word reduce the quality of photos and make them unsuitable for professional printing. Do not submit photos taken by cell phones. For the magazine, do not submit photos that you “Googled” and downloaded from the Internet. They often do not have a high enough resolution.
Book Reviews: We include reviews of new, pre-K through 12, fiction and nonfiction books. While we do not review textbooks or books for higher education students, we will accept article submissions from their authors.
