Common Core Standards: Overview

The Common Core State Standards Initiative builds on the foundation states have been providing for decades. The CCSS draw on former state standards, international models, research, and ideas from relevant stake-holders including departments of education, scholars, assessment developers, professional organizations, K-12 educators, college reading educators, parents, students, and other members of the public.

IRA offers resources to help you be involved with the process of implementing these standards. We encourage you to start by reading the documentation on CCSS website for you to have first-hand knowledge of the background and specific components of the Common Core State Standards. Then, please read through the many resources and external links IRA provides for your continued professional development on this critical topic.
