IRA Arbuthnot Award

The IRA Arbuthnot Award is an award to honor an outstanding college or university teacher of children’s and young adults’ literature. Nominees must be Association members, affiliated with a college or university, and engaged in teacher and/or librarian preparation at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Award Recipients

Nancy L. Roser

Nancy L. Roser is Professor of Language and Literacy Studies, the Priscilla Pond Flawn Professor of Early Childhood, and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. A former elementary teacher, she teaches undergraduate elementary reading and language arts, as well as graduate courses in teaching the English Language Arts and Children’s Literature. Her research interests include close inspection of children's book conversations in classrooms. She is co-editor of Book Talk and Beyond and What a Character! Character Study as a Guide to Literary Meaning Making with Miriam Martinez as well as chapters and articles related to teaching reading and the language arts.
