Abstract of
Teaching Tips Interactive Frames for Vocabulary Growth and Word Consciousness
Rod Winters
Limited vocabulary knowledge has been cited as a key factor in the literacy achievement gap, particularly for students with learning disabilities, students of color, and English-language learners. Recent authorities have recommended multipronged approaches to assist vocabulary growth in classrooms. In addition, authorities have called for increased attention to instruction for development of word consciousness. Morpheme Triangles offer an interactive teaching strategy that uses graphic frames and teacher-guided discussion as a means of apprenticing developing readers into active inquiry and increased word consciousness.
