The strategies in the section “Checking for Understanding” assist in assessing the level of students' comprehension and show how to help students increase their comprehension. The DRAW strategy stands for Draw, Read, Attend, and Write and involves reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It encourages higher order thinking, motivates students in gaining information, promotes discussion, encourages listening, and promotes participation. The level of the questions that are chosen is important.
