Abstract of

Introduction

In the book's introduction, the authors provide background for using picture books as mentor texts to teach elementary-grade students how to use author's crafts (literary devices) to enhance their writing. Mentor texts are important to writers' workshop, but can be useful in any type of writing instruction.
