This practical, hands-on chapter explains how to successfully initiate R5 in the classroom. The rules of R5 are explored and specific suggestions for implementation are offered, including student ideas for making R5 effective. Classroom transcripts explicitly illustrate how to employ R5 and introduce each phase of R5 to students. Assessment tools are explained in order to maximize independent reading. Mini-lessons related to coaching students on book selection and teaching genre are included to enhance student engagement during R5.
