full text - PDF

Chapter 4 introduces the five-day implementation cycle for guided reading groups and student participation at each of the kidstations. The authors explain how to initiate the four guided reading groups and assign students to the three guided reading kidstations to work on activities that are related to and elaborate on the text the students have just read. The element of student accountability, which is key to the success of the model, is explained. The four-week cycle allows for each student in one group each week to demonstrate one of the activities that have been completed at the kidstation. An example of a possible room design is included as a key aspect for the success of the kidstation model.
