This chapter presents the advantages and disadvantages of using trade books (children's literature) vs. textbooks for teaching content area subjects. The author defines different types of informational books and offers guidelines for selecting and acquiring them, as well as suggestions for teaching their special features to students. And, the chapter also contains examples of graphic organizers used for choosing, reading, studying, and writing informational text.
