This chapter focuses on one of the six strategies for peoplework: creating and communicating a vision of literacy for all stakeholders. Having this vision, made up of three distinct parts, is an essential characteristic of a successful literacy leader. The author offers helpful suggestions and activities for creating the vision, such as drawing on personal literacy experiences, visualizing and writing about it, listing projected literacy goals, and creating a slogan. The author offers guidance about communicating the vision, once it is defined, to major stakeholders and getting them to commit to it and share in its realization.
