full text - HTML   full text - PDF

This chapter examines how a successful Latino fifth-grader named Josue experienced literature. The author also discusses a coming together of two theoretical perspectives: reader response theory and cultural funds of knowledge. Together, the two perspectives cast light on how Josue interpreted and used literary works to tell his own story.
