The Plum Creek Children’s Literacy Festival originated in 1996 at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. The festival is a three-day literacy event for school age children and adults; participants are provided with an opportunity to interact with nationally acclaimed authors and illustrators. The festival has grown from a one-day, one-author event to a three-day nine-author event. Over 10,000 school-age children and their teachers attend two Children’s Days of the festival AT NO CHARGE. An adult conference is held the third day, with nine authors and seven literacy experts speaking to approximately 600 attendees. There is a short video that shows the festival and our mission at www.cune.edu/plumcreek.
Authors scheduled to appear include Nick Bruel, Floyd Cooper, Jack Gantos, J. Patrick Lewis, Brian Lies, Dandi Mackall, Jim Murphy, April Pulley Sayre, and Jeff Kurrus. Rosemary Wells will be the keynote author luncheon speaker.
Literacy experts will include Linda Hoyt, an encore appearance by Donalyn Miller, Monica Burns, Twyla Hansen, Tricia Parker-Siemers, Amanda Geidel, and Jill Johnson. Topics will include Using Technology in the Classroom to Writing Instruction.
