The Reading Teacher Seeks Cover Photos

Do you love taking pictures? Are you the go-to person who takes the pictures at school celebrations and events? Do you maybe even moonlight as a professional or semi-professional photographer?

IRA would love to hear from you! Beginning in September 2011, we'll be featuring photographs of real students doing real reading and writing on the cover of each issue of The Reading Teacher. If you have a great photographic eye, we invite you to submit your work to us for consideration. All photographs must

  • Depict a child or children (up to age 12) engaged in literacy-related activities, with or without adults
  • Depict only people from whom appropriate releases have or can be obtained — that is, anyone included in a photograph (or, in the case of children, their parents or guardians) must be aware that his or her likeness is being submitted and be prepared to provide a written release allowing IRA to use the photograph (release forms for children and adults are available and should be submitted with photos)
  • Include no content copyrighted by a third party (e.g., clearly discernible book covers, clearly readable text passages from a copyrighted work, trademarked name brands and logos)
  • Be submitted in digital format (minimum 300 dpi resolution), 8" x 10" in size or larger, and in color

Photos and release forms should be submitted by e-mail to publications@reading.org. Include a maximum of two images as file attachments to your e-mail message, which should also include your name and contact information. The two images should be your best shots and serve as samples of your work. If your photos are selected for consideration by our design and production team, we will contact you for further details and potentially to request additional images for consideration.

Questions? Contact us at publications@reading.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
