International Projects for Councils
There are many worthwhile activities for councils to undertake, from book drives to professional development events. We’re pleased to offer suggestions and tips for program planners. Of course, the best way to find out what projects hold greatest appeal is to ask your members!
In addition to unique projects planned and conducted by your council independently, there are several programs in which many councils have participated. These are described below.
International project partnerships
IRA's council and affiliate network allows reading professionals around the globe to support one another’s efforts to promote literacy. Many councils sponsor literacy projects in different countries and regions, lending assistance through materials, funding, or professional collaboration.
If your council is interested in an outreach activity, visit the International Project Partnerships area for an overview of these activities and to find programs seeking sponsorship.
International Literacy Day
Many councils organize events to mark this day, celebrated each year on September 8.
Sponsored memberships
As a council leader, you are part of IRA’s worldwide network of reading professionals. Help promote literacy around the globe by working with your council to sponsor IRA memberships for educators in countries with developing economies. In this way, you can help bring top-quality IRA resources to teachers who could otherwise not afford them.
